How long should the hair extensions last?
Hair extensions can last up to 6-9 months with proper maintenance and care. The hair extensions should be serviced every 6-10 weeks depending on your personal rate of hair growth.
Can the Hair Extensions be Colored?
As a general rule Hair Extensions can be darkened but preferably not lightened. Although some salons will lighten the hair extensions, doing so can potentially damage the hair. Accurate color matching is vital for the look and performance of any hair extension. Color matching should be completed at the consultation to ensure you have the perfect color for you.
Can the Hair Extensions be Curled and Straightened?
Absolutely! The Hair Extensions can be treated exactly as normal hair would be treated. Human Hair Extensions can be styled, blow-dryed, straightened or curled However, you should proceed with caution.
Nano Extensions- Do NOT apply direct heat to the nano tip bond. The bonds are made from high quality Italian Keratin but as with any bonding material, extreme heat can cause the keratin to soften or melt.
Weft Extensions- Do NOT cut the weft!! This will ruin the structural integrity of the weft causing it to unravel.
As a general rule, extreme heat should not be applied to either the natural hair or to the Hair Extensions. Extreme heat can dry out hair extensions, cause damage and also reduce the overall lifespan of the hair extension. The less heat that is applied to hair (natural or extensions), the better it is for the condition of the hair.
Can the Tip slip out of the Ring?
This can happen on occasion. When this occurs, remove the old ring and re-install the hair extension.
Here are the things to look out for:
1. Was the ring clamped correctly?
2. Was there enough hair threaded through the ring? You want as much as possible in the ring.
3. Does the clients hair shed more than usual? Hormone treatments or various Illnesses can lead to excessive shedding.
4. Are they constantly wearing their hair in Tight Pony Tails? This can cause a lot of stress on the natural hair and the hair extensions.
Can the Tip Detach from the Bond?
Once again, this can happen from time to time. Here are the possible causes for Tip Detaching from the Bond
1. Excessive Heat applied to the bond. Avoid Hair drying at the scalp for prolonged periods of time. Hot Tools should NEVER come into contact with the bonds.
2. Using products with Sulfates. Sulfates naturally break down keratin which will loosen the hair extension bond and damaged your natural hair as well. Only use Sulfate Free professional products.
3. Excessive stress on the bonds. Ex. Tight pony tails, braids and hair pulling.
How does the Pure Platinum Hair Extension System work?
The Rotational Plan allows you to maintain your hair without causing stress on your own natural hair.
- Each hair extension is attached to the client’s hair using Pure Platinum Nano Ring. The Hair extension comes in either 1 gram or 2 gram pcs and is approximately 20 inches in length.
- The Clients natural hair is Section and Threaded, according to our recommended amount.
- Each extension is then clamped using the Pure Platinum Clamp and Release plier.
- This process is repeated every 6-10 weeks depending on the client’s rate of hair growth.
How Do I Maintain my Hair Extensions?
Shampoo & Conditioning
- The most important rule is Do NOT use any products containing Sulfates. This can damage your hair and the hair extensions. Sulfates naturally break down keratin which will loosen the bond and damaged your natural hair. (Once again, You spent a whole lot of money on these luxury hair extensions, don't cheap out on the shampoo and conditioner. Trust us)
- Brush or comb hair extensions when they are dry before shampooing
- Wash your hair at least twice a week using a shampoo that is heavily moisturizing and creamy in consistency leaving the hair feeling conditioned rather than squeaky clean. If unsure, ask your hairdresser.
- We strongly recommend that before you start shampooing, apply conditioner from mid length to the ends
Prior to washing. Once the conditioner is in the hair you can proceed to wash the hair with the conditioner from the mid lengths to ends. This helps to prevents shampoos stripping or over washing your extensions. Shampoo your hair twice using a massaging technique rather than an aggressive scrubbing technique. Start by massaging the shampoo into your roots then proceed to squeeze the lather through to the ends. Shampooing twice is important because the first shampoo will help to break down any oil and dirt. The second shampoo will lather and help bring those oils and dirt to the surface to be rinsed off. Proceed to rinse the shampoo thoroughly from your hair. - It is recommended to use a heavily moisturizing conditioner that is creamy in consistency rather than a light one that can leave your hair feeling un-moisturized. If unsure, ask your hairdresser.
- Remember to always apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hair.
- Using a wide tooth comb, start to comb through the conditioner beginning at the ends and working your way up to the scalp.
- While rinsing out the conditioner, we recommend that a slight residue of the conditioner is left in your hair for further moisturizing
- After rinsing your hair, thoroughly towel dry to remove excess water.
- Using a wide tooth comb, proceed to comb your hair starting at the ends and working your way to the roots
Styling
- When blow drying hair extensions, it is recommended to comb each section of hair before blow-drying.
- It is important not to start blow drying your hair while completely wet.
- If you feel a few extensions that are stuck together just simply separate them.
- It is vital to use professional products such as Oribe, R&Co or Living Proof. These can make a dramatic difference in the daily maintenance of hair extensions.
Daily Maintenance with Hair Extensions
- Comb your hair with a hair extension brush at least twice daily.
- We suggest to check your hair extension every few days for matting or knots, do this before going to bed.
- Avoid using any electric styling tools such as straightening irons and curling tongs.
- If you feel you need to use hot tools simply reduce your temperature to avoid damaging the hair extension and possibly your hair. Hot tools are the number 1 cause of hair damage so if you like your hair extension to last and you own hair to grow the use hot tools with caution.
- When applicable only use light hold styling products that contain a low hold factor.
- Avoid frequent tying your extensions up in pulled back pony tails. The creates stress mainly around the front and bottom of the scalp.
Maintenance while Sleeping
- Before going to bed, tie up your hair loosely preferably using a cloth tie (ex. Scrunchy)
- After waking up, remove the hair tie and brush your hair using the hair extension brush, starting from the ends and working your way up towards the scalp.
Swimming/Sauna/Spa
- It is not recommended to swim with hair extensions. However if at any stage you feel like taking a swim, avoid immersing your head under water or simply wear a swimming cap.
